Ashcake Rd over 95
Ashcake Rd is a rapid bridge demolition project that was completed in only 4 shifts. PDI was contracted to remove the superstructure only, including the deck and girders in order for the client to be able to repair and expand the piers and replace the bridge deck. For this demolition, the I-95 had to be closed, and because of the heavy volume of traffic that uses this highway, closure times were very limited. The PDI team worked closely with the client to ensure there was enough closure time to get the job done, without causing further disruption to the flow of traffic. PDI demolished the bridge deck over the Northbound lanes, then removed the girders over the course of two (2) evening shifts before moving to the South bound lanes and repeating the removal process. PDI completed the job on time, on schedule, making it a great success.
Key challenges:
- Concrete spalling
- Closure times
- Traffic volume
